✔ The Kyoichiro Kaga series book 10 in Japanese (book 4 in English) ✔ A murder case leads Kaga to a secret of the lonely death of his mother ✔ A sad episode of Kaga's past and his personal memories
★★★★★ The last book I have of Kaga series. It seems to be summing up his life and work so it is filled with emotions, and it's decisively sad. His case is now leading him to a buried secret of his mother's lonely death. Thrilling and overwhelming.

The Kyoichiro Kaga series book 10 in Japanese (book 4 in English). It's the last one for now (though Higashino releases more much later) so it's filled with emotions ; Kaga's past, his family and his memories.
It's a sad episode of the series, because the case he's dealing with is leading him to his mother's lonely death. But it's not only because of his memories with his mother, we also meet a mysterious man who makes the sadness to deepen.
In the background, you see the harsh winter of Tohoku, Northern Japan, along with people who live modest lives, working in bars and factories, the misery of living day by day, the family connections and past they must carry... Then you realise, this is the Tohoku that Seicho Matsumoto depicts. The cold waves splashing against wintry coast, swallowing everything but the sadness, this is Seicho Matsumoto's world, of older Japan. But here you get the modern wind of Keigo Matsumoto.
As someone who read all 10 books one after another last few weeks, it's overwhelming, but you also see a speck of hope, saved by love, and you feel now relieved in the end.
