✔ A stabbed man struggles to get to Nihonbashi and dies there ✔ Detective Kaga must find the man's secret that even his family didn't know about ✔ Kaga's strong sense of justice
★★★★☆ A stabbed man dies in Nihonbashi, but why was he there? Kaga with his sense of justice chases after a secret that the man's family didn't know. It's Higashino's trademark blend of mystery and human drama.
The Kyoichiro Kaga series (book 9 in Japanese, book 3 in English)
The theme is "family", a life in Tokyo that is far from the fancy street lights. The stabbed man struggles to get to Nihonbashi and dies but why was he there? What is his secret that even his family didn't know about?
It's Nihonbashi again so we get to meet the people we met in "Newcomer" so there's a fun connection from the previous book.
But, I personally think that the truth came out a bit sudden. The story builds up well, but then you face the truth that is a bit out of blue (to me!). In the end of course everything settles down well but I just thought that crucial point was slightly off.
So we keep seeing Nihonbashi area, that might mean that it's just a stepping stone for next?
