✔ They instead encounter a submarine Nautilus and its captain Nemo
✔ An influencial classic, that has inspired generations of adaptations and ecowarriors

★★★★☆ A marine biologist goes out to hunt a sea monster, but he and his crew encounter a submarine Nautilus and its mysterious Captain Nemo instead. I might not like SF in general but regardless it's a book one must not miss.

A classic SF adventure, and there is nothing more famous and popular that deals with the sea than this.
I personally don't like SF or adventures, so I'm a wrong person to judge, however, it's humorous, exciting and Captain Nemo's very modern way of thinking is interesting, so it is definitely a book you mustn't miss.

A marine biologist goes out to hunt a monster that everyone is talking about, but he and his crew encounter a submarine Nautilus and its mysterious Captain Nemo instead.
There are great details in what's happening and description of where they are and technologies - which would be exciting for those who love SF.
For me, personally, what interested me more was Captain Nemo's hidden emotions and Ned Land's un-European way of life etc, but that's me and again I'm a wrong person to judge this book.

Either way, I am glad I read it, and glad that I found it in a bookshop that was closing down in London, at 2 pounds.

I'm also glad I found out Ponyo's father Fujimoto was a crew on Nautilus!
