✔ An influencial essay from the 1980s that made everyone fall in love with the south of France
✔ A very personal notes about his personal life, it doesn't get old
✔ So many people visited and moved to Provence after reading this

★★★★☆ It's a fun read simply as an essay but it was more influencial because it actually make so many people visit or moved to Provence in south of France. British humour in the traditional Mediterranean town.

A book that has been loved since it was published in the 80s and probably affected many to actually go to Provence, south of France.

It's a fun read as an essay, he's British you can't avoid his British humour, then it also makes you want to go to Provence.
Even though it was written decades ago, it doesn't feel "old" because he talks about his personal experiences with very subjective views.
About renovation on his house, about chatting with the workers, about his grocery shopping and going out - it's nothing out of ordinary, yet it's interesting and entertaining.
He's definitely not trying to be French, he's still very British, so that distance is somehow comfortable.
But, he wasn't expecting how influencial this book would've turned out to be, he actually left Provence as it got too crowded (then returned again)

As a foreigner living in the Mediterranean town myself, I sort of wish I could write my days as interesting as he did, but my days are way more boring and quiet!
